PROGRAMS & SERVICES
Continuing Education for Nebraska Sheriffs
- NSA provides 20 hours of continuing education for all sheriffs on an annual basis as mandated by Nebraska statute.
- NSA is also a reference source for legal questions and a lobbying group representing the interests of law enforcement in the Legislature.
- NSA keeps members up-to-date with all information relative to new legislation and technological advances that impact law enforcement.
Technology & Information
- NSA works in partnership with all law enforcement agencies to enhance technology, furnish important information, and continuously provide the highest quality of protection to all citizens in the state of Nebraska.
State and County Fairs and “Search for Safety”
- NSA participates in state and county fairs. At these events, NSA provides fingerprinting, coloring books, Junior Deputy stickers, pencils, bikes, and educational materials.
- A “Search for Safety”, similar to a mini scavenger hunt, with a special appeal to the youth visiting the Nebraska State Fair, offers everyone the opportunity to learn about safety while having fun. Kids get a free t-shirt by visiting every sponsor and completing a safety activity. Sponsored by NSA in partnership with Nebraska Game and Parks, State Fire Marshal, US Attorneys, Nebraska Emergency Managers, Statewide Emergency Response Commission, Police Officers Association of Nebraska, NESCA (Statewide Safety Communicators), Attorney General’s Office, and the National Guard Counter Drug Task Force.
Sponsor of Special Olympics
- NSA is proud to be a Bronze Sponsor of the Special Olympics and the Nebraska State Games each year.
- Sheriffs and personnel across the state participate in the annual Nebraska Torch Run, kicking off the games.
Other Donations
NSA contributes to other worthwhile organizations and events:
- NSA regularly supports Nebraska 4H Camps.
- NSA has donated to the Law Enforcement Memorial in Grand Island, dedicated in May 2009.
- NSA regularly supports COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors).
Air Inflated Sheriff’s Deputy Mascot Costumes
Sheriffs, you can really make an impact at the next organizational event you attend:
- NSA has 2 air-inflated WalkAround® mascots (air blow-up costumes), designed to look like Sheriffs’ Deputies, available for use by Sheriffs’ Offices for county fairs, at school gatherings, and for other organizational functions.
- An internal air blower keeps the costumes inflated with fresh, circulating air. These costumes accommodate a wide range of wearers and offer a unique and comfortable experience - allowing the wearer to walk, shake hands, and animate a larger-than-life Deputy Sheriff.
Fatal Vision Goggles Program
Drinking and driving don’t mix:
- NSA developed a program using special goggles that simulate intoxication at .08 — the blood alcohol limit at which you are considered intoxicated.
- This program is presented to the public, with special emphasis on junior and senior high school students.
Rollover Accident Demonstrations
In an effort to prevent rollover fatalities:
- NSA can provide 3 Rollover Machines, in partnership with the Nebraska State Patrol and the Police Officers Association.
- First appearing at the 2002 Nebraska State Fair, these machines demonstrate the benefits of wearing your seat belt in an automobile rollover accident.
- This project was initiated as a result of the large number of fatalities occurring as a result of rollover accidents.
