Special Olympics

The 2010 Special Olympics National Games will begin with the arrival of approximately 3000 athletes on July 17, 2010. The athletes will arrive through the Cessna airlift, Lincoln and Omaha airports, and buses and vans. Additionally, a thousand sports delegates and 15,000 family members will be arriving before or after this date. Sunday, July 19 we will kick off the events with Opening Ceremonies. Monday through Friday we will be operating 14 sport competitions throughout the University of Nebraska and the City of Lincoln. Simultaneously, Olympic Town, Sports Experience and Healthy Athletes will be operating at the Pershing Auditorium. With this flurry of activity we need assistance with Security.

During the week of the games I will need approximately 200 (8) hour shifts of police officers with the majority of these people being used Monday through Friday. I am hoping to staff this operation with volunteer law enforcement from throughout the State of Nebraska. The use of Department Uniforms will be up to the agencies department’s chief administrator and the volunteer. If they cannot wear their department uniform, we will supply a shirt that will indicate Police on it. The officers working the events will be fed and supplied with beverages throughout their shift.

Officers willing to volunteer for this event need to go to the web site. At this web site they need to create an account with their email and password. We will respond back with an email containing the application and instructions to follow. Any additional questions, people can contact me at 402-219-3122 or email me at .

Thank you for your help,
